Fiber Optic Line of Control

VOLK System detects the following factors:

vehicles crossing the guard boundary

entrenching tool operation

excavation equipment operation

caterpillar vehicles moving

Distributed security Fiber Optic Line of Control "VOLK" (which is Russian for 'wolf') monitors the state and realizes perimeter protection of the extended objects.


The system consists of a dedicated fiber-optic cable-sensor, the logic system module and the reprocessing server, which has access to the LAN and/or WAN. Thus, the operator can be any person with any device that supports Web-based interface.

Distributed sensor of the vibrations and acoustical actions is based on a coherent reflectometer. The system allows to detect the approaching to the protected area and border crossings throughout the controlled area (40 km single-channel mode and 80 km - dual channel). When approaching a person, vehicle, or in the case of execution of works near the protected object "VOLK" provides the event location information with an accuracy of 10 meters to the operator computer.


“VOLK” System is a distributed acoustical action's sensor for security systems.

The sensing element is a standard telecommunications single-mode fiber (fiber-optic cable).


The system can detect any activities that cause vibrations in water and soil, taking place at a distance of 160 meters from the cable along its entire length. Usage of the reflectometer principle allows to determine the location and type (characteristic) of the action. One such system replaces scores of point sensors.


Vibro-acoustic monitoring system of extended objects has the following parameters:

event determination accuracy — 10 m;

the length of the perimeter, controlled by one “VOLK” module – up to 80 km;

temporal resolution in each channel - ½ s;

the ability to detect and track a large number of objects simultaneously

sensitive element (fiber-optic cable) doesn't require power supply.

Integration with the other security systems.


Interaction with the system "PHOENIX" allows to realise an integrated approach to the protection of the objects.

Combined use of the complex "VOLK" and the system of the air response "PHOENIX" is possible in the following versions:

manual (operator by alarm of the complex "VOLK" directs the copter to the given point of the protected area);

automanual (complex automatically builds a route to the fixed point of the violation, the operator is required to confirm the flight task);

automatic (copter in standby mode performs independent flight by the instructions of the complex "VOLK", sending the recorded video to the server).


System "VOLK" can detect the following types of actions:

Earthworks (undermining and etc.);

approach to the protected corridor, motion of the light and heavy vehicles across and along it;

determining the direction of the intersection of the protected perimeter using multiple sensor lines;

locating the intruder in the protected area when installing the sensor in the form of a specialized cabling scheme of the sensor element over the entire area.


Experimental sector comprises a protective boundary laid at the depth of 0.3 - 0.7 m:

in the solid clay soils on the flat and hilly areas;

in the woodland area at the distance from tree trunks of 1 m;

along the road with concrete blocks, laid in two rows and woodland at the distance of 2 m.


The system detects a person or a group of people crossing the guard boundary at the distance of 2 m with characteristics:

on foot at 0.5 to 2.5 m/s

running at 2.5 to 7 m/s


The system detects the factors affecting the guard boundary with characteristics:

vehicles crossing the guard boundary at 10 up to 100 km/h;

entrenching tool operation (shovel) - 2 m;

excavation equipment operation - 20 m;

caterpillar vehicles moving - 50 m;

heavy wheeled vehicles moving - 10 m;

light wheeled vehicles moving - 5 m.



After desired signal processing by ADC the special system processor initially evaluates the information through channels with emitting controlled frequencies of the vibro-acoustic spectrum. Further the multi-stage processing of the desired signal takes place.


The system "VOLK" guarantees the customer the stable, trouble free operation. The length of an object controlled by a single unit can be up to 80 km, depending on configuration. The possibility of coupling of the single units to monitor more extended object can be provided. There is no restrictions on the length of the object. The number and location of the operator console and/or control monitors – is up to customer's choice. The high accuracy of the location defining of the detected event is 10 m. For the exact positioning of the accident on the terrain, the system uses GPS-binding of the cabling route and used map or existing maps of the Google, Yandex, OpenStreetMap search engines.


The system control of the guard band is permanent over the entire cable length. In the case of detecting any activity the system immediately informs the user. The maximum delay time is from 5 to 10 seconds.


VIBROACOUSTIC MONITORING SYSTEM

Vibroacoustic system of monitoring the extended objects is a scalable complex with permanent monitoring of the object state and the possibility of a rapid response to the incident.

In addition, the possibility of remote control of the object state as a whole from any device with Internet access can be provided.

In contrast to existing guard boundary monitoring systems, the system of vibroacoustic monitoring of the extended objects does not require complicated construction and installation work. The thickness of the soil layer required for the installation of the system is from 0.3 to 0.7 m.

The cable- sensor is configured on the base of serial optical cable, does not contain any conductors of the electric current and does not require special conditions for its location.

Construction parts of the cable- sensor (with length usually 4-6 km) are interconnected by means of the special protected couplings for the fiber-optic cable.

Cables connection and their subsequent repair in the case of breaking is performed by welding of the optical fibers using standard equipment, which can be included into the delivery set.

Vibroacoustic system of monitoring the extended objects is a closed, self-contained complex, that answers all possible requirements for the objects safety control systems. The system does not require any additional security devices but it can operate efficiently in combination with other security systems.


Used software of the logic module minimizes system setup during commissioning. The usual procedure for installing the system is the following:

  • integration and installation of the system logic module together with the operator's console;

  • cabling and connection of the fiber-optic cable-sensor;

  • binding the distance channels of the cable-sensor to the geographical coordinates;

  • in the case of technology or intentional damage to the cable-sensor, repair is performed by welding the ends of the sensor using standard equipment and can be lengthen, if necessary.



Advantages of the "VOLK" system:

-reliable system based on optical fiber, which does not require electrical power throughout its entire length, resistant to electromagnetic influences and capable to monitor the wide profile;

-the type of the used fiber is SMF28e+;

-the possibility of using the previously laid cable

-combined use with the other security systems via Ethernet:

video surveillance, informing the emergency services, etc.

-system functioning saving control with a duplicate cable-sensor for a single cable break;

-defining the location of the cable break with accuracy up to 10 m;

-high sensitivity of the system in the different environments

-system universality.
